GUYSBOROUGH – The first distillery in the world located at a golf course opens June 18 in Guysborough, Nova Scotia. The state-of-the-art distilling and brewing facility is home to Authentic Seacoast’s award-winning spirits and craft beer brands, including GLYNNEVAN Whisky, Sea Fever Rum, Fortress Rum and Rare Bird Craft Beer.
The public are invited to an exciting day of spirit and craft beer tastings, live music, historical reenactments, cannon fire and fanfare as Authentic Seacoast introduces their new distillery and brewery at Osprey Shores Golf Resort.
Attendees will be among the first to tour the facility and taste the products. They will also get a glimpse into the deep history of beer and spirits on the Guysborough harbour, the birthplace of brewing in Atlantic Canada which began in 1659 by Acadian entrepreneur Nicolas Denys. Attendees will also experience Nova Scotia’s proud rum heritage, a tradition that goes back more than 300 years, when salt cod and lumber left Guysborough Harbour for the West Indies, returning with “hogsheads” of rum in their holds.
A detachment of Cannoniers/Bombardiers accompanied by members of the field music corps from the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site will be onsite to help celebrate the grand opening. Cannon fire will volley back and forth between the distillery and the Fortress of Louisbourg, and the sounds of fife and drum will echo throughout the day.
Official ceremonies will commence at 2 p.m. with a plaque unveiling, flag raising and cannon firing. Tours and sampling will resume from 3 to 5 p.m. The festivities continue into the night with a special performance by Juno award-winner Garrett Mason at the Rare Bird Pub in Guysborough from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
The Hon. Randy Delorey, Nova Scotia Minister of Finance, will join us for this momentous occasion.
