New Lifestyle Complex goes to tender

GUYSBOROUGH – Contractors will be invited to bid on construction of the Municipality of the District of Guysborough’s planned Chedabucto Lifestyle Complex starting Friday, Jan. 20.

The tender process has two phases, MODG’s CAO Barry Carroll told The Journal Tuesday. The first, due on Feb. 17, involves criteria for contractors. It will look at each contractor’s qualifications and suggestions for the project. The second part, due March 3, is for technical bids and pricing.

Carroll said the primary criterion is pricing, but it’s not the only criterion.

After March 3, engineers and staff will evaluate the bids and make a recommendation to council.

“Hopefully by then we’ll know about federal and provincial funding,” said Carroll.

By the end of March or early April, council should be in a position to make a decision about going forward with the project, said Carroll.

The major recreation project includes an artificial turf soccer field, outdoor rink and skating loop.
