St. Mary’s approves community grants

SHERBROOKE – Before the summer season took hold, St. Mary’s council approved funding grants for numerous organizations across the municipality at the regular council meeting on June 12.

Municipal councillors are allotted discretionary funds for use within their districts every year. For the 2017 – 2018 fiscal year all seven councillors have been allocated $2,857.14; amounting to $20,000 in total.

Council accepts grant applications every year from organizations active within the municipality. This year a total of $11,000 was awarded to the following organizations; Port Bickerton Planning Association, GOALS, St. Mary’s Shooters Association, St. Mary’s Memorial Hospital Foundation, Heritage Goldenville Society, Port Bickerton Community Centre Space, and St. Mary’s Education Centre/Academy.

The municipality also sponsors a scholarship for St. Mary’s Academy students who are graduating from Grade 12 and planning a post-secondary education. This year the amount granted for the St. Mary’s Academy School Scholarships was $3,000.
