Funding for seniors’ spaces in St. Mary’s

On Saturday, April 14, MP Sean Fraser visited the Port Bickerton Community Centre to announce a federal grant through the New Horizons for Seniors Program of $24,000 for the centre’s green space project, which includes a new playground area, a gazebo, and upgrades to the parking lot.

Next, MP Fraser dropped into the social at the Indian Harbour Lake/Jordanville Community Centre to announce that the centre was receiving $22,713 for a new ceiling, lighting and parking area. Members of the Stillwater Community Centre were also present to share in the good news that their centre was receiving $25,000 for their centre’s revitalization project, where work is well underway.

The New Horizons for Seniors Program promotes positive aging by supporting seniors’ volunteerism and encouraging seniors to play an active role in their communities. This innovative program enhances seniors’ social well-being and enables them to maintain social ties and share their knowledge, skills and experience with others. Applications are not currently open for the next round of applications, however notice will be shared by MP Fraser’s office once they are open.
