Shepherd’s Lake gets restocked with trout

Shepherd’s Lake is a big, beautiful lake in Lincolnville, near Route 16. On Monday, October 15, both Shepherd’s Lake and Meagher’s Lake were restocked with approximately 2000 small trout from the Fraser’s Mills Fish Hatchery.

Shepherd’s Lake is a very popular lake for trout fishing, particularly by locals and from time to time by sport fishers travelling to our area.

The Municipality of the District of Guysborough, in conjunction with its Waste Facility, has an annual Municipal Green Fund that supports environment friendly projects in the municipality. Shepherd’s Lake and Meagher’s Lake – as well as many other lakes within MODG – have been stocked with small trout each fall with trout being paid for from the Municipal Green Fund Program.

Each year, since 2007, the Guysborough and Area Fish & Game Association has applied under the Green Fund Program for funds to stock local lakes that would not be stocked under any other program. MODG has provided from $2000 to $7000 each year to support the fish stocking program.

Community members have assisted with this program each year since its commencement in 2007.
