The Canso Lions Club are taking orders for the popular spring fish sale. Orders will be taken until Friday, March 25 with delivery on Friday, April 1. The Canso Lions Club recently elected the 2016-2017 executive. The incoming executive include King Lion Janet Delorey, Treasurer Lion Carl Bond, and secretary Lion Cathy DeRabbie and past King Lion Brenda Garrity.
The Canso Lions have been busy with weekly TV bingos, drop-in darts every Tuesday and card plays every Thursday. The Lions have hosted benefit bingos and receptions at the Lions Hall. On Saturday, March 26 the Lions Dart League will host the Mosher Dart Tournament. The Lions will provide kitchen service during the tournament and take orders from noon until 4 p.m.; to order call 902-366-2965. The Canso Lions donated $200 to assist the Out of The Fog Museum in Half Island Cove with its summer program.
Planning for the Annual Provincial Seamen's Memorial Service on Sunday, August 14 is underway. The 2016 Seamen's Memorial Service marks the 40th Anniversary of the unveiling of the Seamen's Memorial. Lion Ray White informed the Canso Lions that the Stadacona Band of the Royal Canadian Navy will perform at the Seamen's Memorial Service. The Canso Lions were assisted with this request by MP Rodger Cuzner. The Honourable Keith Colwell Nova Scotia's Minister of Agriculture and Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture will participate in the 2016 Memorial Service.
The Canso Lions Club will hold the second Lions Foundation of Canada Purina Walk of Dog Guides on Sunday, May 29 at 2 p.m. Pledge sheets and information is available from Lion Ray White 902-366-2785.
