Hospital campaign thanks community with donor wall

GUYSBOROUGH – This week marks the end of the Enhancing Our Health Services Campaign with the unveiling of a donor wall acknowledging the funds raised by the community. When asked in February 2015 about the challenge of a small community raising $700,000, Honorary Campaign Chair Kaye Williams replied, “Just watch us!” The people of Guysborough responded generously and the donor wall is in recognition of their dedication and support for the Guysborough Memorial Hospital.

Campaign organizer Elizabeth Connolly thanked the 100 or more volunteers who assisted in the campaign to raise the $700,000 community contribution required for the $5.88 million hospital expansion. “We are here today because of the dedication of the canvassers who went door to door to campaign. The amount of time spent on canvassing was truly appreciated,” says Connolly who enlisted volunteers from across the hospital catchment area.

Campaign Chairperson Bill Innis is pleased that the goal of $700,000 was surpassed which allowed the project to reach its completion within budget. The Hospital Foundation Board and the Guysborough Memorial Hospital Auxiliary were pleased to be able to acknowledge the volunteers, businesses and individuals who made the campaign a success through a permanent donor wall.

The wall was designed to incorporate the health and well-being of Guysborough and area. The shape is intended to reflect ocean waves, the photographs to capture people interacting in the natural environment. Local photographer Hilary Hendsbee was commissioned to create the images used in the panel. The design and installation were carried out by Eye Catch Design who advised the committee on lighting, colour and materials.

The public is invited to drop by and view the donor wall while they are in the area. The donor wall is located across from the main waiting room at the front entrance of the hospital.
