CANSO – The Canso and Area Food Bank Association ceased operation on Wednesday, August 31, and now begins the search for an alternative way to provide emergency food support in the community.
“Our current space is no longer available, and so far we have not been able to come up with any affordable alternatives to keep the service running,” said a spokesperson for the food bank.
Currently, Canso is working with Feed Nova Scotia, the Guysborough and Area Food Bank, and other community and government organizations to find a solution. A meeting was held last week to determine the best course of action. “Our priority right now is to ensure those who rely on support will still have a place they can go to access food.”
Individuals and families seeking assistance after August 31 will be able to receive support at the Guysborough and Area Food Bank, located at the back of Chedabucto Mall and open Thursday from noon until 2 p.m. For more information, please contact Myles Connolly at (902) 533-2248.
