Student hit by dumptruck in Monastery

MONASTERY – Tuesday morning a student from East Antigonish Education Centre and Academy was hit by a dumptruck on Hwy. 4 in Monastery near the school.

The accident happened at 8:11 a.m. The child was transported to the IWK in Halifax via LifeFlight with serious injuries.

Traffic was quickly detoured around the accident. An RCMP Traffic Analyst soon began an examination of the scene.

By 1 p.m. only a short section of the road was closed and access to the school was permitted by local firefighters stationed at the detour point closest to the Hwy. 104 exits.

The investigation is ongoing.
