MULGRAVE – The UARB has set dates for public hearings into the proposed dissolution of the Town of Mulgrave and amalgamation with the Municipality of the District of Guysborough. Hearings will be held March 20-23, 2017, with an evening session on March 20. A second evening session will be held in Guysborough on March 21.
Members of the public wishing to speak at the hearings need to apply to the UARB by March 7. That’s also the deadline for members of the public to submit a letter to share their views.
Parties with intervener status in the process have until Dec. 20, 2016 to file evidence with the UARB. That gives time in January and February for rebuttals.
In other council business, Monday’s regular council meeting saw second reading of a new land-use bylaw to allow for accessory buildings of up to 1500 sq feet. Acting CAO Kevin Matheson told The Journal the specific request that prompted the new bylaw was for a building to accommodate storing a boat. No one showed up for a public hearing on the bylaw before the meeting.
Matheson said staff from the Dept. of Municipal Affairs would like to meet with the town in December to discussion options for dealing with its vacant council seat.
