GUYSBOROUGH – Plans for development of a rocket launch site in the Canso/Hazel Hill/Little Dover area are proceeding quickly. Maritime Launch Services CEO Steve Matier will be in the Canso area and Dartmouth next week for a series of events, meetings and activities to help move the project forward and share information with local residents.

Officials with Yuzhnove, the Ukrainian maker of the Cyclone-4M rockets to be used at the site to launch commercial satellites into orbit, will be given a tour of the site on Dec. 13, Matier told The Journal. That same day he will speak to students at Fanning Education Centre in Hazel Hill about the project.

On Thursday, Dec. 14, project proponents will hold the last of three open houses in the area, this one at St. Agnes Parish Hall in Little Dover.

MLS and various consulting partners will kick off the facility design process in Dartmouth on Dec. 11. The local community liaison committee for the spaceport project will have its initial meeting next week as well.
