GUYSBOROUGH – Students at Chedabucto Education Centre/ Guysborough Academy have been busy in April. They've taken part in many extracurricular events, bringing recognition of excellence to themselves and their school.
Last week, on April 21, Jesse MacDonald and Brent O’Handley brought home the bronze medal in the NSSAF Under14 boys doubles at Badminton Provincials held in Halifax.
At the beginning of the month 11 students were selected to attend the Regional Science Fair on April 10 in Port Hawkesbury. The following students took part in the regional fair: Suki Kamogawa, Daniel Sangster, Kailee Crooks, Brenna MacPherson, JR George, Hannah Kamogawa, Gianna Pellerin, Anna Cook, Mateo Grover, Aidan Bond, Caroline MacKeen, Sophie Imlay and Emily Hart.
Four of the participating students received awards at the closing ceremony on Thursday, April 12; Aidan Bond, Jr Bronze Medal; Gianna Pellerin and Emily Hart, Jr Silver Medal and Caroline MacKeen, Jr Gold Medal as well as Challenge Award Health, Institute of Science Medallion. MacKeen also placed 3rd overall in the Regional Science Fair with a plaque and trip to NS Showcase in Halifax and to Canada Wide Science Fair in Ottawa all expenses paid.
On April 13 female students took part in Techsploration and won for best presentation at the conference, a standing that came with a cash prize of $200.
