GUYSBOROUGH – The Guysborough Journal took first place honours in the category of best news story at Newspapers Atlantic’s 2018 awards night in Halifax on June 1.
Helen Murphy’s reporting on the tragic shooting in Upper Big Tragedy in Jan. 2017 – with a collection of stories stretching from profiles of the victims to a look at PTSD issues and local mental health services – was recognized by the judges as “outstanding.”
“This coverage was solid work from start to finish,” the judges said.
“We endeavoured to tell this horrific story thoughtfully, thoroughly and with sensitivity,” said Murphy. “And in that light, the judges also recognized the accompanying photography of John Bastin and the presentation of these stories by our designer Chris Reid.”
