SHERBROOKE – The District of St. Mary’s is hoping to entice travellers along Highway 7 to stop for a while and visitors to Historic Sherbrooke Village to expand their visit with a new streetscape development project.
The municipality recently issued a Request for Proposals for the design of a new streetscape plan for Main St., stretching from the fork in the road at Old Road Hill down to the historic village.
Details related to the municipality’s application for provincial funding for the project are expected soon.
During an interview on Tuesday, economic development and planning officer Kelly Greenland said the plan is to improve the pedestrian and vehicular experience in Sherbrooke. The project is expected to provide attractive spaces for visitors and residents to spend time along Main St.
"Businesses and residents here take a lot of pride in Sherbrooke and we want to make sure that is showcased outwardly as well,” said Greenland.
The call for proposals closes Friday, Dec. 21st. The municipality hopes to award the contract around Jan. 9, 2019.
