CANSO – There was a big turnout for the annual laying of the wreaths off Canso on Sunday afternoon. Amid cloudy skies the wreaths in memory of those lost at sea were moved from the Seamen's Memorial to Whitman's Wharf by Dave MacMillan, where Lions Ray and Judy White passed them out to participating boats.

This year's lead boat the “Melissa and Papa III” with Capt. Bill Bond. It was joined by 36 other vessels for the boat parade that circled Canso Harbour and sailed to Chedabucto Bay.

When all the boats circled around the lead boat, Lion Ray White welcomed all and Deacon Alonzo Reddick from Tracadie United Baptist church read a special prayer which was broadcast to participating boats.

Following a moment of silence wreaths were placed at sea by Lions Judy and Ray White from the Canso Lions Club, captain Bill Bond in memory of lost fishermen and women and Deacon Alonzo Reddick on behalf of area clergy. Then other boats laid wreaths in memory of those lost.
