Fundraiser planned for marina repairs

GUYSBOROUGH – The Guysborough Waterfront Development Society met last week to discuss damage caused to the Guysborough Marina by Hurricane Dorian, and necessary repairs. The group decided to start fundraising efforts to help pay the $7500 insurance deductible with a variety show featuring local musicians at Chedabucto Performance Centre on Oct. 5, and possibly a larger fundraiser later in the year.

Society Chair Paul Long told The Journal that local business Days Gone By is also having a pub night with Reid Jamieson to support the cause.

“We met with an insurance adjuster and we are hopeful for a successful claim once all estimates of repairs are completed,” said Long.

“We will be removing all finger piers over the course of this week to begin the repair process. Boaters will be able to launch their boats and tie off on the north dock for the remainder of the season.”

One of the marina’s two service docks was destroyed in the storm and pier boards were loosened, among other damages. Most boats were removed prior to Dorian’s arrival.
