GUYSBOROUGH – Mulgrave Road Theatre (MRT) is one step closer to moving into a new, more spacious home in Guysborough.

The Municipality of the District of Guysborough voted unanimously at its monthly meeting on Nov. 20 to sign a purchase and sale agreement with MRT to transfer the former NSLC building on Highway 16 to the charitable organization for $1.

As previously reported, MODG had expressed interest in securing the property from the province after NSLC moved to its new building beside the Chedabucto Shopping Centre, with the intent to transfer it to MRT. The municipality reached an agreement to purchase the property from the province for $1, with a closing date of Nov. 22.

MODG said the transfer to MRT will be a contribution to the theatre's capital campaign. The theatre group is moving from its smaller home in a historic property on Main St.

The property is to be transferred to MRT on an "as is, where is" basis, with any associated costs being the responsibility of MRT.

On Nov. 5, MODG staff and representatives of MRT conducted an inspection of the property and no major issues of concern were identified.
