Artworks East presents two Mother’s Day Workshops hosted by Joanna Miller, entitled “The Family Tree” – taking place May 4 at the Harbourview Community Center in New Harbour and May 11 at the Chedabucto Curling Club in Bolyston, from 1 to 4 p.m. (both dates). These workshops will show you how to take your family heirlooms and repurpose them into framed pieces of art. Both workshops are free of charge. The Annual Goods and Services Auction at the Mini-Trail Community Centre in Lakevale, Antigonish County (4382, Route 337) will take place at the centre with doors opening at noon for registration and viewing of items, with the auction set to begin at 1 p.m. Canteen services on site. Free admission and two chances to win your bidding item for free.

Kitchen Party at St. Francis Harbour Hall in St. Francis Harbour, Guysborough County, 2 p.m. There will be a light lunch and a 50/50 draw. Admission is $5. All entertainers are welcome. Sponsored by St. Francis Ladies Aid.

The Annual Ratepayers Meeting for the Goshen & Area Volunteer Fire Department will be held at the Goshen Community Centre, 7:30 p.m. The annual financial statements for 2023/2024 and the proposed budget for 2024/2025 will be presented and reviewed. The tax levy for 2024/2025 will also be set. The annual meeting of the Goshen Community Centre will be held immediately after. All interested residents are invited and encouraged to attend both meetings.

The Mini Trail Community Center’s Highland Lobster Supper takes place at the centre (4382 Highway 337, Lakevale, Antigonish County) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy a traditional lobster supper, served at your table by the community who caught, cooked, and prepared it. All dinners include 1lb lobster served in a cracked shell with butter, homemade coleslaw and potato salad with a fresh dinner roll along with an array of desserts to choose from. The Erinville Fishing Derby, hosted by With A Little Help Society, will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 10 The Lane, in Erinville, Guysborough County. Private pond, no fishing license required. Entry fee is $14 for adults, $6 for ages 12 and under. Cash and merchandise prizes will be awarded. Pop and hot dogs will be available for purchase.

The Eastern Guysborough / Mulgrave Pastoral Charges will hold a Chili Luncheon at Wesley United Church from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Meal includes homemade chili, a roll and sweets. Cost is $8 each, eat in or take-out. All proceeds will go to Boylston United Church.

The Sheet Harbour Ground Search and Rescue 26th Annual Fish Derby Fundraiser will take place at Marshall Flowage (Highway 374) beginning at 8 a.m. Prizes will be awarded at 3 p.m. A boat and motor will go to first place and there will be lots of other prizes, raffles, competitions plus a canteen and great fun for all ages. Get your tickets from any member, when you see our truck set up in town – or at the derby. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for youths. Special raffle (3 for $5) and 50/50 ($1 each).
